This simple, classic tomato sauce lets the ingredients shine. With just a few ingredients, you can make a delicious homemade pasta sauce.

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1 28-ounce can Gridelli Canned Tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Gridelli Olive Oil
  • Gridelli Olio al Peperoncino
  • 14 ounces spaghetti pasta
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the garlic. Cook in olive oil over medium heat for a couple minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  2. Add the canned tomatoes, crushing them with your hands as you add them to the pan.
  3. Add a splash of water. Simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt.
  4. In a pot, boil salted water and cook the spaghetti until al dente. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta water.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the tomato sauce along with the pasta water and lots of grated Parmesan. Toss well over heat until the water evaporates – this is an important step called mantecare.
  6. Transfer to a serving platter. Grate over more Parmesan, drizzle with chili oil and top with basil leaves.
